The Hollower’s Shield — also called the Guardian Casket — is the only weapon in Mina the Hollower that can parry. That’s the whole pitch. If you nail the timing, you negate an attack entirely and slam back a big chunk of counter-damage.
Parrying is shield-only. No other weapon has it. If you came here looking for a global parry button, this is it.
Who it’s for
This is the expert’s weapon. The shield has the highest skill ceiling in the game: defensive on the surface, brutal in the hands of someone who reads attacks well. If you love counter-heavy combat — waiting for a swing and turning it back on the enemy — this is your build.
If you’re new, start elsewhere. The parry window is tight and a misread leaves you exposed. Come back when you can read tells on instinct.
How it plays
The shield has three layers, all on the attack button:
- Tap to bash — a short thrust attack for your basic offense.
- Hold to block — reduces incoming damage, but watch the cracks. Block too much and the shield breaks mid-fight.
- Bash exactly as you get hit to parry — this negates the hit and delivers heavy counter-damage.
Don’t turtle. The shield rewards aggression-through-defense: you’re baiting attacks so you can parry them, not hiding behind block. Pair it with Hollowing to reposition between parries.
Upgrades
- Grave Counter improves the perfect-parry, boosting your counter-damage when you time it right.
- Coffin Toss is a ranged projectile that can also be used as a platform — so the defensive weapon picks up reach and a traversal trick.
Where to find it and how to unlock it
The Hollower’s Shield isn’t a starting weapon. Buy it from Legovich’s Arms in Ossex City Center. Note the catch: the second smithy purchase triggers a forced duel with Armand, the blacksmith’s brother. He’s a tough fight — see our Secret Bosses guide before you commit.
The two upgrades come from the eight red upgrade chests around the world, or from the smith (2,000 Bones first, 2,500 after).
