Sparks are your lives — they protect your carried Bones and open sealed Spark doors. Spark Containers add more. The main quest is restoring six failing Spark Generators.
Sparks do two jobs, and both are worth understanding early. They’re your safety net for the Bones you’re carrying, and they’re a key that opens certain sealed doors. The game’s whole main quest also runs on Sparks — you’re restoring six failing generators.
Think of Sparks as lives, but for your wallet. As long as you’ve got one, a death won’t wipe your carried Bones.
Sparks as lives
You start with one Spark. When you die, having a Spark means you keep your Bones instead of losing them. Run out of Sparks and then die, and you lose all the Bones you were holding.
The math players quote: four Spark Containers + one from the Spark Catcher trinket = five total. That’s five deaths you can absorb before your carried Bones are on the line. The more Sparks you bank, the more cushion you’ve got.
💡 A lot of beginner guides say the same thing: focus on Sparks first. More Sparks means more buffer against losing Bones, and they unlock doors you’d otherwise have to skip.
Spark doors
Some sealed doors are Spark doors — they only open when you’re holding a minimum number of Spark orbs. If a door won’t budge, you probably need more Spark Containers. This is the second reason to grab Containers early: they’re not just lives, they’re access.
Spark Containers
Spark Containers are permanent upgrades that each add one Spark to your maximum. They’re scattered around the world. One notable source: beat the secret boss Dark Deluxy and heal her with a spare Plasma Vial to earn a Spark Container.
The six Spark Generators
The main quest is simple to state: restore the six failing Spark Generators. Each one lies far from the hub city of Ossex and is guarded by a boss. The good news — there’s no fixed order. Pick a direction (the fountain in Ossex has six lightbulbs hinting which generator is which way) and go. Nothing is locked behind an item you have to earn somewhere else.
Note on numbers
The 4+1=5 Spark total and the count of six generators are confirmed by guides and the PlayStation Blog. Exact Spark Container locations beyond the documented ones may shift as more of the game is mapped — treat unconfirmed location lists as provisional.

FAQ
How do Sparks work in Mina the Hollower?
Sparks act as a safety net. Each death you have a Spark spends it instead of costing you your carried Bones. Run out of Sparks and die, and you lose all the Bones you were holding. Some sealed doors also need a minimum number of Sparks to open.
How many Sparks can you have?
You start with one. Collecting all four Spark Containers plus the Spark the Spark Catcher trinket grants brings you to five total — five deaths you can absorb before your Bones are at risk.
What are Spark doors?
Spark doors are sealed doors that only open if you currently hold a minimum number of Spark orbs. That's a big reason to prioritize collecting Spark Containers early.
How many Spark Generators are there?
Six. Restoring all six failing Spark Generators is the main quest. Each one sits far from Ossex and is guarded by a boss, and you can tackle them in any order.
Where do I get Spark Containers?
