Thorne is the game’s main antagonist and the first major boss you fight. He is a bat — the former head of Baron Lionel’s guard — who betrayed the Baron and, alongside his shock troopers, destroyed the Spark Generators that power Tenebrous Isle. The fight caps the opening stage and eases you into the combat system.
Crucially, Thorne does not die here. When you beat him he flees “on the brink of death,” which sets up the rest of the story.
How to Beat Thorne
- Bring the Nightstar. Its long, whip-mace reach lets you poke from a safe distance while you learn his patterns. This is a teaching fight, so play it cleanly.
- Attack in short bursts. Land a hit or two, then back off. Mina is slower than her enemies and some attacks have pushback, so committing to long strings gets you clipped.
- Watch the three-strike combo. His trident chases you with a series of three swings. Strafe sideways, let the third hit whiff, then punish the recovery.
- Skirt the bomb trail. He dashes and drops bombs that detonate after a beat. Hug the arena edges and never stand where the trail just passed.
- Burrow the tornadoes. When he spins up a ring of tornadoes, Hollow underground — you are invincible while burrowed, so you slide right under the expanding circle.
- Heal carefully. Only heal once you’ve made distance, because his attacks cancel your heal and leave you open. Drinking a Plasma Vial locks you in place for a couple of seconds.
What you get
Beating Thorne advances the story rather than dropping a trinket. He retreats, and the island’s larger conspiracy begins to unfold from there.
Attacks & Counters
| Attack | Tell | Counter / Dodge |
|---|---|---|
| Trident Strikes | Rears back with the trident and lines up on Mina | A series of three strikes that follow you around the arena — keep moving sideways and punish the recovery between combos |
| Bomb Trail | Dashes and lays a swift trail of bombs | Bombs explode after a short delay; stay near the arena edges and keep clear of the trail |
| Tornado Burst | Winds up and spins | Dispels a large burst of tornadoes that expand around the arena in a circle — Hollow (burrow) underground to pass safely beneath them |
FAQ
Is Thorne the first boss?
Yes. Thorne is the principal antagonist and the first major boss you fight, in the opening stage that concludes the game's intro. He does not die here — he flees.
What is the best weapon against Thorne?
The Nightstar (whip-mace) is the easiest pick. Its range lets newcomers poke safely and learn the timing of the fight.
Why does Thorne run away?
On defeat, Thorne flees the scene on the brink of death instead of dying, leaving the larger story open. It is meant to feel mysterious.
How do I dodge the tornadoes?
Burrow with Hollowing. You are invincible underground, so dive beneath the expanding tornado ring instead of trying to run around it.
